The challenge was to obtain a detailed survey of the masts of the Training Ship without interrupting the training activities, as the “Vespucci” sails the seas around the world every year.
How did we reveal it?
Study, insight, and tireless dedication
The survey posed significant challenges, as the traditional method involved dismantling the masts and creating a perfect replica with every detail (rivets, connecting elements, special parts below deck and in the bilge, etc.). Our survey was carried out using custom-designed solutions without removing the ship’s masts. This allowed the technicians at the La Spezia Arsenal to reconstruct the new masts while the Vespucci was at sea on a scheduled voyage.
The new masts were then installed when the Vespucci returned to the Arsenal for its regular maintenance period.
