3D laser scanner surveys with 3D BIM modeling as a basis for the renovation and restoration project, accompanied by communication videos for the search for partners and investors.

What beauty is waiting to be revealed?

Reevaluating a monument

The Diocese of Piacenza, owner of the historic property complex (located in the center of Piacenza with original structures from the 15th–16th centuries and significant alterations in the 18th century), aimed to restore and renovate the building. With no reliable drawings available and the palace in poor condition, a precise survey was needed to thoroughly understand the structure and to create a promotional tool that could highlight the potential of the historic complex.

How did we reveal it?

3D survey and redesign to connect past and future

The laser scanner survey served as the foundation for the 3D BIM model reconstruction, which AREA3D developed as a pilot project for the new 3D technique. From this model, 2D drawings and complete schedules of windows, flooring, plasterwork, frescoed surfaces, and more were extracted. The 3D model also enabled a virtual visualization with a restoration proposal, allowing potential public or private investors to explore the recovery of the complex through fade animations between the point cloud from the survey and the 3D restoration hypothesis.
