What beauty is waiting to be revealed?
Technology and Culture
The survey, commissioned by the Diocese of Piacenza, was intended as the technical and scientific basis for the restoration project of the external façades and as precise technical documentation. The 3D modeling was used to create an animated virtual video of the monument.
How did we reveal it?
The three-dimensional method from survey to reconstruction
One of the very first projects carried out using laser scanning combined with photogrammetry on a monument of this scale. The rendered external façades are so detailed that they allow identification of the materials used and their state of conservation. The 3D modeling, developed directly from the survey’s point cloud, is not just a “scenic” reconstruction but an accurate representation down to the monument’s smallest details.

Project Features and Highlights
- Complete point cloud from the laser scanner survey consisting of 1.66 billion points.
- 3D model of the Cathedral with 9 million polygons and 350 MB of sampled photographic textures.
- High definition video on vimeo
