What beauty is waiting to be revealed?
Millimetric Detail
Given the results of the surveys of Giotto’s Campanile, the Florence Cathedral authorities commissioned us to survey all the exterior areas of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, while also supporting their technicians with specific surveys of areas undergoing restoration.
How did we reveal it?
Laser scanning survey combined with ultra-high-definition photogrammetry
The surveys were divided into phases, each further split into zones.
A general phase was initiated to capture the entire cathedral in detail, identifying individual elements of the exterior cladding for archiving and scheduled maintenance. From this phase, the main façade, the north façade, and the upper part of the south façade have already been surveyed and documented.
A second phase focused on surveying areas under restoration, including the southern apse and part of the northern apse, where the surveys supported restoration work and the organization of the various construction sites.

Project Features and Highlights
- Fourth largest church in Christendom: 153 meters in length, 39 meters wide at the naves, 90 meters across the transept, 51 meters high at the main façade, and 91 meters at the dome.
- High-detail survey of the external façades.
