What beauty to unveil?
Re-evaluating a monument
The Diocese of Piacenza, the owner of the historic property complex (in the center of Piacenza with original layout from the 1400s/'500s and substantial modifications from the 1700s) wanted to restore and renovate the building. There were no reliable drawings and the building was in a very poor state of preservation, so it was necessary to carry out a precision survey to know the property thoroughly and a promotional tool that would reveal the potential of the historic complex.
How did we unveil it?
3D surveying and redesign to link past and future
The laser scanner survey was used as the basis for the reconstruction of the 3D model in BIM that AREA3D created as a pilot project for the new 3D technique. From this model, two-dimensional drawings and all the abaci of fixtures, flooring, plaster, frescoed surfaces, etc. were extracted. With the 3D model, the virtual visualization with the restoration hypothesis was also realized in order to present to possible funding agencies or private individuals the possible restoration of the complex with fading animations between the point cloud of the survey and a 3D modeling and restoration hypothesis.
